Representatives from over fifty UK tour operators visited a number of attractions in Merseyside including Ness Gardens, The Lady Lever Art Gallery and Sunlight Vision Museum in Port Sunlight.
The tour was organised by the Mersey Partnership and Northumberland-based Steve Reed Tourism in Partnership with Wirral Council's Tourism Team. The idea behind the tour was to attract more business to Wirral and exploit the massive tourism potential in the Borough.
Steve Reed was very impressed with the facilities and services for tourists in Wirral: "The recent visit to Wirral by the fifty plus UK tour operators really took their breath away! We visited the area as part of a whirlwind, and sometimes hectic, 3 day tour of Merseyside - an opportunity for the tour VIPs to see for themselves what makes the Merseyside tourism industry tick.
The visit to Wirral coincided with lovely springlike weather and they saw Port Sunlight at its very best. Its unchanging landscape formed the backdrop to what has to be one of Britain's top galleries - the Lady Lever Gallery. And they learnt a little about the Port Sunlight area and its founder Lord Lever when they called into the Sunlight Vision attraction there.
Ness Botanic Gardens proved to be one of the real highlights of their entire visit. Here, General Manager Kevin Reid arranged for two seperate garden tours guided by enthusiastic volunteer guides. The group were greatly impressed by the breadth and scale of the beautiful site - not least its soaring views over the Dee Estuary to Wales.
And will they be bringing groups of visitors back to the Wirral? "No doubt about it, said Steve. "The feedback from the buyers as they departed Merseyside to draw up their future touring plans was very positive."
Joyce Holmes, Group Travel Organiser from Wigan Women's Friendship Club said: "I have joined quite a few of Steve's trips but this one has been outstanding."
