Albert Dock celebrates the launch of ACC Liverpool and Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture
From 1pm - 5pm on January 12th 2008 the Albert Dock will be celebrating with its newest neighbour, the Arena & Convention Centre, for the landmark opening celebrations of Liverpool's year as the European Capital of Culture.
A day of family entertainment is scheduled with a celebration of culture in its many forms; music, art, film, food and drink
Live Music will be played in a variety of the Dock's venues whilst literature is being celebrated with live readings by modern and contemporary poets, all performing specially written poems about Liverpool's culture. Performances by Jade Gallagher, Michael Ryder, Kaya, Lizzie Nunnery, Seumus Mcoughlin, Jeff Jepson and Delta Fiasco will take place at Blue Bar & Grill, whilst The Savoy Jazz Men will be performing around the Dock for passers by to enjoy.
Art is at the very heart of the Albert Dock; the Turner prize will be entering its final days at Tate Liverpool and Site Gallery will be screening special short films in its Biennial Cinema in collaboration with Northwest Vision and Media. The fantastic "Mersey - The River That Changed the World" exhibition at The Grand Hall will be open to give visitors a chance to experience the marvelous history of this internationally-significant river.
The Albert Dock will also play host to some of the most exciting street theatre the city has to offer, as Shiverpool scare passers by with their creepy tales of the Albert Dock, whilst theatrical street artists bring the Dock's varied history to life.
Food and Drink at the Dock will play an integral role in the culture celebrations as Circo and Babycream are offering 2 for 1 children's meals, whilst wine lovers are invited to Vinea for a complimentary introduction to wine tasting.
Joe Edge, Director of the Albert Dock Company said
'The Albert Dock Company is delighted to be supporting the ACC Liverpool with their launch event for Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture and we welcome them as our neighbours. This momentous occasion brings together years of planning and hard work by all of our partners at Liverpool's World Heritage Waterfront and marks for us the beginning of a new and exciting time for Liverpool and the Albert Dock.
The Albert Dock is working closely with the Liverpool Culture Company to facilitate the after show celebrations on January 12th at many of the Dock's venues. We will be working closely with all of our partners to ensure minimum disruption to our visitors.'
